Re: Richard Dawkins and Fascism

William Lane Craig demonstrates that his skills as a propagandist, apologist, and evangelist are well-suited to conservative punditry. “Drcraigvideos” immediately blocked me from his channel when I tried to post a comment about the video to which this video responds (link below) and he did not accept this video response. Clearly, he has no interest in an actual discussion, which betrays his profound lack of confidence that his claims can withstand scrutiny. How unfortunate for him. Here’s Bill O’Reilly claiming that teaching children ideas he finds problematic is “child abuse.” He calls for the government to step in: www.youtube.com (One wonders if Drcraigvideos will view this as a “disturbing trend” among the conservative commentariat.) By the way, judging by some of the extremely caustic comments and responses to this video from Christians, William Lane Craig has some creepily loyal devotees. I haven’t had this much vitriol thrown my way since I did my video about Zooey Deschanel not being able to sing. ;-) Links: The “Richard Dawkins and Fascism” video on Drcraigvideos’s channel: www.youtube.com Robert M. @AgeOfReasonXXI cont….”religion causes brain death, didn’t you know that??” PHILOSOPHERS, many great thinkers are religious, C.S. Lewis, was a professor of Literature, Tolkien wrote some of the best fantasy books ever written, YES, THEY WERE INDEED BRAIN DEAD. (SARCASM). “..hope you spare your child.” My children are HONOR STUDENTS, have WON AWARDS IN SCIENCE, HISTORY, AND ART, and yes, they believe in Christ Jesus. “..or it’s too late.” For you it is, Fascist.

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 10:05 am

@AgeOfReasonXXI “..and yes feeding your kid religious bullshit is a form of child abuse.” So, YOU ARE in FAVOR of the STATE COMING INTO LAW ABIDING CITIZENS HOMES AND TAKING AWAY THEIR CHILDREN FOR TEACHING RELIGION RIGHT?? OR DO YOU WANT THE STATE TO GET RID OF RELIGION? FASCIST EITHER WAY, OR do you NOT DO ANYTHING??? If you don’t then you’re as guilty as those who “abuse” their children. WHICH ONE IS IT?? “religion causes brain death.” PERSONAL OPINIONS CARRY NO WEIGHT. cont….

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 10:46 am

@AgeOfReasonXXI “No, she has no right to teach her child what she wants!” FASCIST. “are you stupid?” NO, I’M JUST NOT A FASCIST. “..do you seriously believe that a mother can, for example teach her child how to torture people?” THAT IS NOT the subject, the subject is moms teaching their child about their own faith, their own religion, and a religion of love and compassion as what Christ spoke of. You’re question is asinine, because “torture” was never a subject. cont….

@Lichtspielhaus234 “It’s her child, she can teach them what she wants, who are you to tell her what she can’t teach her child, that’s fascism.”
No, she has no right to teach her child what she wants! are you stupid? do you seriously believe that a mother can, for example, teach her child how to torture people?

@mortuus8 cont…”That’s the concern, they never get to choose what lied they are fed.” YET, that statement is an accusation to the parents, that the parents are INTENTIONALLY lying to their children. If not, then you can’t say they are lying to their kids. If your parent’s raised you to believe in God, and you then turn atheist, are your parent’s liars???

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 11:58 am

@mortuus8 cont..”He will never push this point further than a hypothetical situation in a book focusing on indoctrinating children at a young age.” Tell me, am I wrong for teaching my kids about a God who I believe loves us and them? Now, don’t go into details of what you think of God, I don’t really care right now. Just answer that question if you will, thank you. cont….

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 12:28 pm

@mortuus8 cont..” And again, he didn’t need to because it was an exaggerated point.” Then why make it if it wasn’t to be taken seriously. He stated that he believed for a fact that children raised or taught religion he considers to be abused and made no mention of medical treatment or any other specific cases, her clearly stated that children raised in religious homes he considers them abused. cont…

@mortuus8 “I meant home schooling.” What’s wrong with home schooling? It’s approved by academia, kids who are home schooled have been shown to do way better in College. “When a mother isn’t qualified and simply indoctrinates her child.” It’s her child, she can teach them what she wants, who are you to tell her what she can’t teach her child, that’s fascism.”Please don’t make assumptions like that when it’s clear I never attacked private schooling” Please be more specific, I was just clarifying.

@Lichtspielhaus234
i love private schools, i meant home schooling. When the mother isn’t qualified and simply indoctrinates her child. Please don’t make assumptions like that when it’s clear i never attacked private schooling.
And again, he didn’t need to because it was an exxagurated point! He will never push this point further than a HYPOTHETICAL situation in a book focusing on indoctrinating children at a young age. THAT’S the concern, they never get to choose what lies they are fed.

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 2:27 pm

@mortuus8 “When a child is forced to follow rules that defy logic, such as removal from proper education.” Define “proper”..are private schools, NOT proper??? Define proper. Religious parents often send their children to public school or private school. Besides Dawkins made no mention of this in the statement he made in public. “..or medical treatment.” That’s in specific cases, that has been done. My children go to the doctor when needed. But Dawkins did not state at all these condition.

mortuus8 September 8, 2010 at 2:40 pm

@Lichtspielhaus234
1) when the child is forced to follow rules that defy logic such as removal from proper education or medical treatment.

i suggest you read the book, rather than take the comment out of context. Unfortunately i’m a few thousand miles from my copy so i can’t quote it, but i’d say it’s like me calling up certain bible quotes and making judgement on it’s application to life based off those (slavery, rape, etc)

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 2:46 pm

@mortuus8 “Unless it puts the child in physical danger then.” Well, how is teaching a child about God and Christ putting them in physical danger? Remember Dawkins was not specific to which religion, he stated all religions. “It was a hypothetical argument by Dawkins and he is not proposing we take kids from Christians.” Then why did he make that statement? “To believe so is to accept you didn’t read the book and can’t argue.” I can, based on that available statement, that he believes it fact.

mortuus8 September 8, 2010 at 3:00 pm

@Lichtspielhaus234
youtube comments are a horrible place for discussions. the best thing to do would be to make a well structured video and address it to him. Otherwise here, the comments get mixed up or out of order, and you have strangers (like me) joining in.
My answer? Unless it puts a child in physical danger then 1. It was a hypothetical argument by Dawkins and he is not proposing we take kids from Christians. To believe so is to accept you didn’t read the book and can’t argue. .

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 3:40 pm

@ProfMTH So, I guess you’re not answering the question huh? :)

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 4:14 pm

@ProfMTH cont…If you say..that 2. The state should step in and take the children away from their parents. That’s fascism. So which one is it? See, Dawkins isn’t really that smart is is he? He attempted to make claims and be logical, BUT then found himself in a philosophical trap. Answer the question put forth.

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 5:03 pm

@ProfMTH Yes, answer the question it asks. By reading all the comments here, there is no philosophical reasoning, just a bunch of Craig bashing. Answer the question..”If it is child abuse, for parents to teach their children about God or religions. what should be done? 1. Leave the child in the home?” or “2. Force the child out of the home by the state?” See, if you say 1. Leave the child in the home, then you’re just as “guilty” as those that are “child abusing” that child. OR…cont…

@Lichtspielhaus234 “This video got schooled by drcraigvideos”

LOL. OK. Thanks.

Lichtspielhaus234 September 8, 2010 at 6:43 pm

This video got schooled by drcraigvideos…see the reply. It was an old fashioned thrashing. Read the questions he then asks you to answer.

eulercircles September 8, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Doesn’t Craig look like one of those Gerry Anderson Marionette puppets to you?

ProfMTH September 8, 2010 at 8:10 pm

@darkwhitedirewolf LOL.

darkwhitedirewolf September 8, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Well done, thanks. Now I know what erudition means. I am now off to be frightening to children and families.

ProfMTH September 8, 2010 at 8:24 pm

@Roper122 Thanks.

Roper122 September 8, 2010 at 9:00 pm

The best thing about videos like this??

It reminds me that the vast majority can spot bullshit when they see it .

Keep up the good work.

ProfMTH September 8, 2010 at 9:15 pm

@AtheistAltar “…I knew he was a Sean Hannity-esque fuckwit.”

Indeed.
