The Nahas Family, Owners
3
Steeple Street is not owned by a large coropration or conglomerate, it is owned
by a family.
In 2002 William & Julie Nahas took the leap from running other peoples'
restaurants to running their own.
They scraped, painted and scrubbed, then applied their philosphy of comfortable elegance to everything from the decor to the menu and the staff.
Robert Crossen, Manager
Few people can name more than one person who makes their living purely by providing great hospitality. Sure, owners and chefs, but the people who tend bar for a living, are scarce. Usually artists, thespians or students as well as bartenders. Not Robert Crossen; this is what he does, and he takes it very seriously, you can find him behind the bar, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights, making drinks , conversation, and a comfortable place for us all to relax.
May Yao, Sculptor
As
all the regulars know, our mixmaster is May Yao, bartender of excellence, but
did you know she is also a serious sculptor. "In the statement that accompanies
her solo show at Providence College, sculptor May Yao describes her goal as
triggering "a visceral response" and generating "instintual fascination"
when Yao gets it right, as she does in Bona and the larger Moby, you come away
with the feeling that your instinctual responses have indeed been tweaked."
Thomas Adams, Artist
Friday
night brings Thomas Adams to the bar, a transplant to RI, this Massachusetts
native spends the little free time we give him working in his studio on digital
illustration or traditional portraiture.
"Though I find traditional realism rewarding, my sensibilities lean more
towards the surreal and horrific." Adams proclaims: "Mankind's primal
instincts are the true grit driving my imagination. It's more interesting to
portray what I see beneath the surface instead of what society places on the
outside."
